SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Syracuse International Film Festival continues into its final weekend. Dozens of films from around the world are being shown at venues throughout Syracuse, and soon, Central New York could be the setting for more new movies.

Senator John DeFrancisco announced a one and a half million dollar grant to build a film center. The Syracuse Film City Center will feature state of the art equipment for film making and editing.

It will also have a multiplex cinema to show off the films made at the center. Senator DeFrancisco says he's proud of how the festival has grown over the years.

"To me it's extremely exciting to think for six or seven years ago the concept of having a festival to now have the reality that there is going to be not only a wonderful festival that is growing every year, but also a facility to make film right here in Syracuse,” said Sen. John DeFrancisco, (R) State Senate-Syracuse.

There is no word on when construction will begin.
