Taxi drivers honored
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- More than 100 taxi cab drivers were honored for their efforts to promote business in the city of Syracuse.
As part of Taxi Appreciation Day, cab drivers got a free lunch Tuesday at the Jefferson Clinton Hotel. Representatives from Mayor Driscoll's office were on hand to read a proclamation and recognize drivers as the "gatekeepers of the city."
Officials say many times cab drivers make recommendations to visitors on what hotels and restaurants to visit.

Drivers we spoke with are happy to help and are thankful for the acknowledgment.
"They ask questions, we direct them to the best way possible. Carousel, Armory Square, Jefferson Clinton, several hotels out at Carrier Circle. They ask a question, we do our best," said taxi driver Cindy Williams.
Hotel officials say they hope to give free lunch to drivers every year, making it an annual tradition.
