ROME, N.Y. - The Oneida Indian Nation has received an award from the White House.

The Oneida Nation's First Allies Group was presented with the President's Volunteer Service Award for their work at six properties of the National Park Service.

One of those locations is Fort Stanwix in Rome, which is where the presentation was held. Volunteers play historic roles in creating renditions, many of those volunteers are members of the Oneida Nation. Representative of the Oneida Nation Ray Halbritter credits those volunteers for the award.

"It's a great honor and we have a lot of our people who are coming to the fort to volunteer their time to help portray the history of our people in our role in the formation of this country accurately and truthfully," said Halbritter.

The Oneida Nation also volunteers in Saratoga, Springfield Armory, Valley Forge, Grant's Tomb, and Fort Necessity National Historic Parks.
