Paterson announces grants to fight foreclosures
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Governor Paterson has announced a total of $1.7 million in grants as part of the state's efforts to address the subprime mortgage crisis.
The grants will go to 20 non-profit agencies for homeowner assistance and foreclosure prevention counseling, advocacy and legal services.
In addition to the awards announced Thursday, the state has also set aside up to $20 million for counseling and legal services for homeowners who hold a subprime or unconventional mortgage under the Subprime Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention Services Program.
