Holiday parade puts Broome County in the spirit

By: Neil St. Clair

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- Santa Clause came to town Saturday, as part of Broome County's annual holiday parade and Christmas tree lighting.

Hundreds lined the streets of downtown Binghamton in subfreezing temperatures as marching bands, dancers and the jolly old elf himself came past.

Spectators think the holiday parade is a great way to get into the spirit.

"It's a great way to kick off the holiday season, and thanksgiving's just around the corner, and the kids get to see all the fire trucks," said Heather Otis, an Endwell resident.

Boscov's Department store helped sponsor the parade along with the county and city.

Spectators were also treated to a free screening of the holiday movie Christmas with the Cranks.
