Potsdam Humane Society hoping for new facility in 2009
POTSDAM, N.Y. -- The Potsdam Humane Society hopes the new year will bring them a new facility. The shelter is hoping to break ground this spring. Plans are set to renovate its current space and build an addition.
However, in order to put out work bids, the shelter needs to be within reaching distance of its $850,000 fundraising goal. So far, it's raised about $265,000.
Although they're far from their goal, the shelter is determined to see the project through as soon as possible.

"We're in desperate need of updating this facility. It's an old facility, it was built in the 50s. It's small, the ventilation is not sufficient, the space is not sufficient for the amount of animals that we have coming in here, so we desperately need updating and enlarging," said Linda Caamano, member of the Potsdam Humane Society Board.
The shelter is currently participating in an online competition to win a million-dollar makeover for the facility. You can vote for the shelter at zootoo.com/makeover.
