Harborfest still looking for carnival location

By: Andy Mattison

OSWEGO, N.Y. -- With Harborfest less than two months away, organizers are still looking for a new location for the carnival area.

Harborfest officials hope to move the carnival to Wright's Landing, but there is an issue as to whether the city owns the property or part of it is owned by the Coast Guard.

The carnival is moving from the Port of Oswego Authority area because of an expansion project.

The staff is also looking at the Canal Commons area, but they are concerned it's not big enough to accommodate the carnival.

"It's just not our number one choice. If we had to go there we have to go there, but you know, we still like to get a final say as to whether we can use the Wright's Landing area or no," said Harborfest Executive Director Tom Van Schaack.

The common council will discuss the issue again at Monday's meeting.
