Potsdam's new hydroelectric plant will bring more revenue to village
POTSDAM, N.Y. – The year 2009 will bring some extra revenue to the Village of Potsdam, following the completion of its new hydroelectric plant.
Despite the cold temperatures, construction crews are working around the clock to keep the project moving. The $3.5 million plant is located on the west side of the Raquette River. This is the second plant for Potsdam. The village sells the hydro power to National Grid and the profit can be used in its general fund.
Once the new plant is completed, the village expects to generate about $200,000 a year from hydro-power that will be put right back into its budget.

"I think we utilize, you know, what mother nature gives us and if we can get an end result and a positive result for the village, some increase in revenue to offset other costs, I think that's a great benefit to us," said Potsdam Village Mayor Ron Tischler.
The plant is expected to be up and running in July.
