Vermont Inn offers skiing, weekend family package

By: Valarie D’Elia

Want to move your kids' skiing abilities past “pizza wedge” stops into “french fry” mode? Woodstock Inn, in the central Vermont town of the same name, has a “Popcorn and Powder” weekend family package suitable for a wintry getaway.

The Woodstock Inn is an idyllic New England landmark surrounded by 18th and 19th century homes as well as a dozen covered bridges. Its very own ski resort, Suicide Six, is the site of the first ski lift in North America - a rope tow.

Over the years, it has continued to put families first, as a perfect place for teaching children to ski. Lift lines are rarely crowded and those who don't want to downhill can slap on some snowshoes or cross country skis.

Despite its name, Suicide Six may be limited when it comes to really challenging runs, but you can find all the diamonds you need back at the resort. The Woodstock Inn carries a “Four Diamond” designation from the American Automobile Association.

It won't be long until the area is in bloom again, making it very comfortable for a walk around town, with its variety of shops or golfing at Vermont's oldest golf course.

The new "Popcorn & Powder" weekend family package starts at $305 a night. This includes two or more nights in a guest room that sleeps up to four people, breakfast each morning, free skiing at Suicide Six, hot chocolate in the lodge, and use of The Resort's Racquet & Fitness Club. Every Saturday evening they show a movie with popcorn and pizza.
