The green iguana
Let's start with a few facts about green iguanas. Native to South America, they are strictly vegetarian and unlike some other reptiles cannot live on crickets.
A healthy Iguana can live to be 15 to 20 years old. Young Iguanas are cute, but it doesn't take long before they outgrow their tanks! Adults can grow to be about five feet long and can sometimes be aggressive!
In Florida, green iguanas are considered a nuisance. They eat pricey ornamental plants and have also attacked curious pets who go out for an early morning romp and happen upon the frightened reptiles. Part of the issue in Florida is that people bring home baby Iguanas and soon realize they can no longer care for them and the animal is released into the wild, creating an overpopulation problem.

Some exotic pet lovers are given inaccurate information at pet stores or don't really understand what they are getting into and take home pets that are best left to experienced reptile keepers. Do your own research and make an informed choice before you bring home any pet.
