Prisons stay open
CHENANGO COUNTY, N.Y. -- Politicians fighting to keep four New York State prisons open have won their battle, several months after former governor Spitzer announced that he was eliminating them from next year's budget.

It was announced Monday that all of the facilities, including camp Pharsalia in Chenango County and Camp Gabriels in Franklin County will remain open. The former governor cited a declining inmate population and said closing the prisons would save money.
