Political speaker series hosted by 40 Below

By: Web Staff

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- What is it like to run for public office? A group of young adults heard firsthand accounts from local politicians during the kick off of 40 Below's Political Engagement Series.

A young adult civic organization, 40 Below began Wednesday’s event with a panel discussion featuring state and local officials, then potential politicians had a chance to mingle with the speakers.

Organizers hope young people are inspired to make a difference in their community.

"Syracuse is a place that's so right for change. There's some progress that's starting to happen. It really is a time for change in the city of Syracuse and I think that young people are starting to feel empowered, starting to feel intrigued by what's possible. So politics is a natural avenue to kind of continue upon that," said Dominic Robinson, Chairman of 40 Below.

The Political Engagement Speaker Series continues through October.
