Syracuse Police host 3rd annual DARE Karate Championship
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Nearly 200 kids and adults showed off their skills Saturday at the third annual DARE Karate Championship.
The tournament took place in the Lincoln Middle School gym in Syracuse.
Competitors were judged on skill and execution and the winners were congratulated with a trophy, but participants say the tournament isn't just about winning or losing.

"It's an opportunity to donate to our Syracuse Police dare program, but it's also an opportunity for kids to showcase that they're not about drugs and violence, that they're about positive things,” said Esteban Trotman, Master Instructor.
The proceeds from the tournament will help fund the DARE program to give kids the tools they need to be successful in school.
