SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A former standout athlete at Bishop Ludden High School is in the hospital in critical condition after being stabbed in a fight overnight at a club in Syracuse.

Police say Daquan Grobsmith, 19, of Syracuse was involved in an altercation around 1:30 Saturday morning inside Johnny B's Jukebox on North Geddes Street. They say Grobsmith was stabbed once in the stomach and twice in the chest and was taken to University Hospital for surgery.

Another man, Keith Horton, 20 suffered a cut to his hand when he was hit by a beer bottle.

Police have made no arrests in the case, but they are still investigating.

Now high school football fans may know the name Grobsmith. He led the Gaelic Knights to a state championship back in 2007 as their star running back. He also was a member of the varsity basketball team, before graduating last year.
