Residents dig out from lake effect snow

By: Andy Mattison

OSWEGO COUNTY, N.Y. -- Old man winter was in a pleasant mood Thursday as he hammered Oswego County with lake effect snow. The weather cancelled schools and caused plows to hit the streets.

For Corey Bloss, more lake effect snow meant shoveling his girlfriend's grandmother's driveway. A gesture she appreciated.

"He does it every time we get snow, which is a lot. So, I don't know, it's a nice gesture of him," said Allie Babcock.

"She has to get out to go do things. She needed a hand, so I came and helped her," said Bloss.

Across town, Austin Crapser and his cousins spent their day off from school a little differently. They went sledding.

In addition to the snow, it was very windy and cold, which made bundling up a necessity for anyone outdoors.

"I'm warmer because I'm wearing my snow pants and my wool socks," said 11-year-old Jordan Crapser.

As the heart of winter approaches, the weather is expected to get a lot worse. And even though people are used to the brutal winter, not everyone enjoys it.

Bloss' girlfriend, Allie, is a senior in high school and is thinking about looking at warm weather schools for next year.

"I'm looking like Florida, California but I'm going to take a semester off before I do anything," said Babcock.

Some areas across Oswego County have seen as much as a foot of snow, which have made for slick road conditions not too ideal for driving, but perfect if you want to have a snowball fight.
