Meals on Wheels month

By: Web Staff

ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- Due to the increase cost in food and packaging, the East Syracuse-Minoa chapter of Meals on Wheels is seeing some hard times.,But the chapter got some help from the East Syracuse and Minoa mayors, who have declared June Meals on Wheels Month.

DECA students at East Syracuse-Minoa High School are also helping out by making canisters to help collect donations in the community. The group says they are doing what they can to make sure Meals on Wheels keeps going.

"Some of the meals are specially made for the clients. So that if they have special needs from their doctor or whatever they need to do that meal meets those nutritional needs that they have. So it's very sad to think that somebody says my heating bill went up so I can't have my Meals on Wheels anymore. I just didn't think that that was acceptable," said ES-M DECA advisor Darlene Baker.

The Meals on Wheels donation canisters will be in East Syracuse and Minoa businesses throughout the month of June.
