UTICA, N.Y. -- One person is taken to the hospital after a fire in the City of Utica. Firefighters say the fire started just before 8 p.m. Monday along the 700 block of Mary Street. The fire appears to have started in the kitchen before spreading to the living room and upstairs to the second floor.
Nermin Velic was the only person in the building at the time of the fire. He was taken to St. Elizabeth's Hospital where he's being treated for smoke inhalation and second degree burns.
The fire is being investigated by the Utica Arson Task Force.
