BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- From swing to cha-cha to the rumba, college students mixed it up for the annual Ballroom Dance Competition. Students from Cornell, Ithaca, Syracuse University and Binghamton University showcased their skills.
With the help of movies and TV shows, ballroom dancing has been picking up in popularity over the past few years. Dancers said the lure comes from many different levels.
"It's different as in solo dancers, where you can show how good you are, but now you have to show how good you are together. So you can't just be one good dancer, you have to be a great couple. And like I said there's 19 dances so you're not just stuck with one number, you're great with all dances,” said Heriska Suthapa, Competition Coordinator.
