UTICA, N.Y. -- We're approaching the one year anniversary of Utica Police Officer Thomas Lindsey's death.

Since then, the city has established several public safety initiatives. Cameras are now in city police cars. There are two officers in patrol cars. Officers are equipped with tasers. The city also plans to install surveillance cameras in high crime areas. The department believes these initiatives are working to ensure the safety of both police officers and the public.

The one year anniversary of the death of Utica Police Officer Thomas Lindsey is approaching. Since then, the city has established several public safety initiatives.
"Every initiative so far, we've been monitoring it. On all initiatives you tweak it as you go. But the overall consensus and the overall operation has been working fantastic, and we're proud to provide residents with this level of public safety," said Daniel LaBella, Public Safety Commissioner.

Commissioner LaBella says he wants to improve the relationship between the public and the police department.
