CORNING, N.Y. -- Congressional candidate Eric Massa unveils his plan for energy independence. Massa said Americans cannot drill their way out of the current energy crisis.

Massa said leaders have to end subsidies to the oil industry and improve fuel economy standards. He said they have to invest in clean energy sources, protect the oil reserves and allow states to make decisions about offshore drilling. Massa said all that is possible now, if representatives like him are willing.

"Big oil controls the elections of the people who pass the laws. And that's why we're seeing hundreds of billions of dollars in profits to companies that aren't even paying taxes on those profits, all the while we're paying $4.30 for gasoline. The time is now to stop that,” said Massa.
