Medicare Scam reported in Chemung County

CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. -- Chemung County officials are urging senior citizens to be aware of a Medicare phone scam. The Department of Long Term Care and Aging said it has had reports from Medicare beneficiaries being called and asked for their Medicare number.

They say the caller claims to be are issuing new Medicare cards and says they need to collect additional information in order to send out the new card. Officials want you to know, Medicare is not calling people for this information.

If you receive a call like this, hang up and report the call to the Senior Medicare Patrol Program Hotline at 1-877-678-4697.
