ENDICOTT, N.Y. -- Pet oxygen masks are being praised by law enforcement. A few years ago, the Liberty Mutual insurance company donated several of these to fire departments and emergency squads in Endicott, Johnson City, Union and Vestal.
John Vaneck, an Endicott police officer, is also a director of the Southern Tier Police K-9 Association. He sees the need for these masks rising, and is asking for the community for more donations.
Oxygen masks, like the one shown on Mya, are being praised by law enforcement. A few years ago, the Liberty Mutual insurance company donated several of these to fire departments and emergency squads in Endicott, Johnson City, Union and Vestal.
"We definitely need more masks so that we can continue on and supply them for the city of Binghamton and ideally, it would be nice to have every emergency medical service having these masks available to them so that once human life is saved at a fire scene for example, they can continue on and go for your companion and pets,” said John Vaneck, Southern Tier Police K9 Assoc. Director.
Officers say they not only come in handy during fires, but are used often when rescuing pets that suffer heat stroke.
