ADAMS, N.Y. -- We're still a few months away, but the rush has already begun. Republicans in Jefferson County and around the North Country held their annual meet and greet party in Adams Sunday.
"Everyone of our candidates are absolutely super supreme candidates,” Jefferson County Republican Chair Sandy Corey said. "I don't know how we ever got so lucky."
Among others on hand talking to folks was longtime incumbent, and the man hoping to hold off Madison County Challenger Mike Oot, Congressman John McHugh.
Election season is starting to heat up. In Jefferson County, the big races are already in full stride. Sunday, the republican hopefuls all got together for a meet and greet with voters. Our Brian Dwyer has more on the candidates running for office.
"You come here as a politician of course, but these are really folks, in many cases, I've grown up with in my home county. It's kind of a relaxing afternoon,” McHugh said.
Also at the party, a couple of men hoping to one day become incumbents. One of them is the man who's challenging Darrel Aubertine for the 48th State Senate District seat, Dave Renzi.
"It's a great event. Every year I come and obviously we're here to see a lot of old friends and hopefully a few new. We're working hard on this campaign trail," Renzi said.
Also, there was the man facing off against Democrat Addie Jenne Russell and Independent Donald Lucas for the 118th Assembly Seat, Bobby Cantwell.
"It's all fun, but this is more fun. You have your family and friends here and the entire republican committee,” Cantwell said. "It's a good day."
The Jefferson County Democrats are hosting their own meet and greet party the first week of September.
Chairman Sean Hennessey tells us he expects each of his party's candidates to be on hand.
