PALERMO, N.Y. -- In the three weeks since Erin Maxwell's death, there have been plenty of twists and turns, but there are also more questions than answers as police have not made any arrests.
This much we do know. State Police say Erin's stepbrother, Alan Jones, was home with her the night she died and made the 911 call, which initially came in as a suicide. Investigators ruled Erin's death a homicide, but haven't released autopsy results.
According to court records, police seized several items from the home, including rope, clothing and bed sheets, as well as a bone and a sword.
It's been more than three weeks since 11-year-old Erin Maxwell was killed and the small town of Palermo is still waiting with the rest of the world to know what happened. News 10 Now's Andy Mattison has the latest on the investigation and what evidence police may be looking at.
Jones has been named a person of interest, along with Erin’s father Lindsay and stepmother Lynn.
Since the investigation began, there has also been talk about the conditions of the house Erin lived in. The town of Palermo condemned the home and the family moved out. The state is also getting involved. Last week, county commissioner Frances Lanigan asked the state to review all of Maxwell's records to make sure the department of social services did its job during several visits as recent at 2006.
Police do not have a timetable as to when they will release Erin's autopsy results or name any suspects, which still has the Palermo community wondering who or what killed this little girl.
