CORNING, N.Y. -- Veterans who live in Corning and served in the Cold War now qualify for a new tax break. City leaders approved a law that gives Cold War veterans an exemption of up to 15 percent of their property value. It will match a break already in place for veterans of other conflicts and wars.
Council members say Corning could have up to a couple hundred Cold War veterans and it's only right to recognize their service. Veterans who served during that time can apply for their exemption at the Corning City clerk's office.
