ALBANY, N.Y. -- An Albany attorney is on the short list of nominees to preside over New York State's top court. The list released by the Commission on Judicial Nomination includes 58-year-old George Carpinello of Albany, two New York City lawyers and four judges. They are candidates to replace Judith Kaye as chief judge of the Court of Appeals who is retiring at the end of the month.
