TOMPKINS COUNTY, N.Y. -- An Iraqi Judge who was involved with the Saddam Hussein trail gave his first public talk at Cornell University Monday.
Judge Ra'id Al-Sa'edi came to Cornell in September to serve as the law school's Clarke Middle East Fellow.
Al-Sa'edi was the Chief Investigative Judge for the Iraqi High Tribunal. He says during the Hussein trail, the tribunal showed the Iraqi people that nobody is above the law and what human rights mean.
He said life in Iraq is now starting to improve, and he wants the US surge to continue.

"We have to keep the troops, we have to keep the experts there to help the Iraqi people and to work together to make real change in the Middle East and also to succeed to let people to understand for American history, the United States, because they have spent all that...all the blood, all the money, all the offers they tried to help the other countries to succeed," said Cornell Clarke Middle East Fellow Ra'id Al-Sa'edi.
Al-Sa'edi came to Ithaca amidst some controversy. His arrival date was pushed back twice after Ithaca Police and the city raised security concerns. His fellowship at Cornell is scheduled to last three years.
