Day six of the New York State Fair
Updated: 08/26/2008 02:37 PM
By: Steve Ference

NEW YORK STATE FAIR -- Five teams from various media organizations competed in a grilling event at Chevy Court. This year's theme was "Mexican Fiesta," and our own team of Ben Augustine and Jacquie Gilliland made a special steak recipe which was voted by the judges as most unique.

Organizers say the competition is a fun way to show off all the beef industry has to offer.

Jean O'Toole with the beef industry said it's a fun way to show off the products offered at the fair.

You can find the more traditional side of Beef Day down at the Beef Cattle Barn. There are numerous events and cattle competitions being held there throughout the day. New and traditional beef products will also be displayed in the Dairy Products Building.

Beef advocates say the industry thrives off the success of the state's dairy industry.

Day six of the New York State Fair
Day six of the New York State Fair is highlighted by Beef Day. It's also the second day in a row senior citizens 60 and up can get into the fair for free. News 10 Now's Steve Ference has more.

"Certainly the dairy industry is the top in the state but the dairy industry is also part of the beef industry because those dairy cows also go for beef. So you have a huge industry here and a lot of farmers into it and it's just very important for our economy in New York State."

New York markets 236 million pounds of beef every year.

As for music the concert lineup for tonight classic rock bands Boston and Styx are headlining the Grandstand tonight. Their show starts at 7:30 tonight.

At Chevy Court, Eddie Money will be playing two shows, the first starting at 4 p.m. with the second at 8 p.m.
