An upscale development in Oneida County is being criticized by some of its residents. People living in Raven Rock Estates in Rome, say they were tricked into buying poorly constructed homes, costing them hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Several homeowners are working with a law firm on possible legal action against the developer and/or the Town of Lee. They say the Town's Code Enforcement Officer should have discovered the violations.
"These people spent the money, they justify relied on the representations made to them by the builders and based on the representations based by the builders, they bought these residences. Now, we're discovering because the state is involved, we're discovering some very life threatening code issues involved," said lawyer David Longeretta.
"The plans that were initiated initially, the town has followed those and the actions taken, have been taken by residents and contractors of their own volition, so we don't know at this time if there's any responsibility of the town other than help these people get their residents corrected," said Lee Town Supervisor, John Urtz.
Neither the developer nor contractor were at the town meeting for comment.
