WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- It could be a couple of days before some people in the town of Watertown have their gas service back up and running. National Grid said a contractor hit an eight inch gas main on Route 11. The immediate area was evacuated, and Route 11 was shut down Wednesday morning.

The leak is no longer a threat, but about 800 National Grid customers will be without service for the next few days.

Crews work to restore gas service in the town of Watertown.

Officials said they have to go house to house to turn individual services back on. They will start that process Wednesday night.
