Inner Harbor block parties begin

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Sure it's loud and crowded, but for one woman, the Inner Harbor Block is the perfect way to unwind after a long week of work.

"I heard how much fun this would be. So my guy and I came out together and I am glad that I did," said Dawn Bonet of Clay.

The block party is held every Thursday during the summer at the Syracuse Inner Harbor. It began two years ago and since then it has grown in popularity.

"It's a very good thing to kick summer off. It brings a lot of people together and we have a good time," said Brian Sanders III of Syracuse.

"The food is really good. The loaded fries are the best. The bands are good," said Bethel Fernndez of Syracuse.

"It's just good music. Dead Rose. I just bought their CD, it's good music, I love it and yeah we have a great time," said Brian McDonald.

Hundreds of people attended the first Inner Harbor Block Party of the season on Thursday. And as our Nneka Nwosu reports, they say it is a perfect way to kick off the summer.

"I think it's awesome and I am planning on coming next week," said Gabrielle Nichols of Syracuse.

Entrance to the party is free and with music, food and a chance to just sit by the water, the party has something for everyone.

Michael Banks of Waterbanks Event Company said, "We get a lot of families out here as well and it's just a great place to be and a nice place to relax."

And, as they say, a great way to kick off the weekend.

"It gives people something to do on a Thursday night. I think it's pretty interesting. I like it a lot," said Derek Susice of Syracuse.

The first block party of the year went well past 10:00 p.m., but if you missed this one, they're held every Thursday throughout the summer from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
