MANLIUS, N.Y. -- A summer camp hosted by the Greater Syracuse YMCA is once again helping kids stay in shape this summer. This week Camp Iroquois in Manlius is beginning its summer camp sessions for kids for the 75th consecutive year.
Officials say it's the oldest continuously operating kid’s day camp in the country.
More than 350 kids from three to 14 are spending about two weeks each participating in activities ranging from swimming, rock climbing, and basketball.
It's an opportunity to stay active and at the same time form new friendships, and develop confidence and social skills.

Officials say parents should encourage their children to get stay active and get involved with camps like this one.
"It doesn't make any difference what camp, whether it's this camp or any camp, socialization, just being outside, the activity, just the whole experience of camp is just wonderful, whether it's a day camp, whether it's an overnight camp, whether it's a sports camp, it doesn't make any difference. I think it's the best thing," said Camp Director, Mary Ellen Mitscher.
Four- two week sessions are being offered for this camp through about mid-August. Registration is closed but for more information about Camp Iroquois and how to get on a waiting list go to www.campiroquois.org.
