OSWEGO, N.Y. -- As people arrive in the Port City for Harborfest, local business are preparing for an increase in customers.

At Cam's Pizzeria, everyone will be working this weekend.

"We have our entire staff working. Most of us will be here from noon to close and we brought in some extra people, friends, family, things like that just to help out for the weekend," said Larry Miller, General Manager of Cam’s Pizzeria.

Miller hopes Harborfest will help the pizzeria's bottom line, just as it has in the past.

"It's always good for business. I mean there's 25,000, 30,000 extra people just in this area alone, not counting what's going on in the parks," said Miller.

As the Port City prepares for Harborfest, local businesses hope to profit from the event. The four day festival is expected to bring more than 250,000 people to the area and the potential for a lot of extra cash. Our Andy Mattison talked with local businesses hoping to benefit from a busy weekend in Oswego.

Cam's Pizzeria is just one of many local businesses hoping to benefit from Harborfest this week. A 2005 study says that the four day festival brings over $31 million to the area and creates over 630 jobs. It's numbers like those that have many local businesses hoping they will increase revenue this week.

"I have spoken to the folks in the lodging business and I know that it's probably the biggest single week of the year for any or all of them," said David Turner, Oswego County Director of Tourism and Planning.

And a big week for the city could also mean more visitors in the future.

"Talking to folks at the various events, they've learned a little bit about, for example, Fort Ontario, and then said you know I didn't have time to do that while I was there at Harobrfest, 'cause there's so much other stuff going, but they come back again," said Turner.

Which could mean more business for places like Cam's, who have a busy week ahead of them.

"We're going to make a lot more pizza this year than what we do on a normal week," said Miller.

Harborfest begins Thursday and runs through the weekend.
