BINGHAMTON, N.Y. -- The rain may have kept a tournament from being played, but it didn't stop the unveiling of Broome County's newest bocce court. The regulation bocce ball court was built right by the pavilion in Otsiningo Park. It's now open to the public and balls can be rented at the park.
Hundreds attended the World Series of Bocce event in Rome last weekend and enthusiasts say they believe the sport's popularity is growing.

"It's such a nice sport. We're hoping someday we'd like to see it in the Olympics because it is quite popular. We have a bocce court right there in the Sons of Italy in Binghamton downtown and we play regularly during the week and especially on the weekends," said Anthony Testani, Sons of Italy member.
If you would like to reserve the court, contact the County Parks and Recreation Department at (607) 778-2193.
