NEW YORK STATE -- Farmers across New York State are getting some help from the federal government.
The USDA has declared 17 counties in New York State federal disaster areas after wind and hail storms this summer destroyed thousands of acres of crops.

Those counties are Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Erie, Fulton, Genesee, Greene, Monroe, Onondaga, Ontario, Orange, Orleans, Rockland, Schoharie, Ulster, Wayne and Westchester County.
New York Senator Hillary Clinton says New Yorkers will also be able to take part in the "Buy-In" program, which allows farmers to get assistance even without crop insurance.
