JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. -- The Cosilmon family recently won a contest held by Barden Building Systems, an international home building company.
The prize? A years free mortgage for the family of three who now live on Airport Road in Binghamton.
The Cosilmons were selected from hundreds of applicants and say the new home will help their 37-year-old daughter Kim who suffers from muscular dystrophy.
The new 2100 square foot house on Deyo Hill Road in Johnson City is being built with her in mind, and will be wheelchair accessible.
The family says winning the contest is a dream come true.
A Town of Union Family is getting a new lease on life, well better make that a new mortgage.
"We took a lot of money out of our retirement to build this house, and when we won it was just like someone is looking out for us," said Phylis Cosilmon, who wrote the actual contest essay.
"It was just unbelievable, I'm still in shock. And it's something that will help us out majorly," said Kim Cosilmon.
The total value of the prize will depend on the final cost of the new house, but should run between $15,000-$18,000. Construction is expected to be completed in November.
We should also note that Kim is a member of Time Warner's Customer Support team in Vestal. Time Warner is News 10's parent company.
