ALBANY, N.Y. -- Fallen firefighters across the state were honored at the Empire State Plaza. Ten new names were added to the memorial wall.

While it was a sober day, Governor David Paterson urged New Yorkers to remember that these firefighters are being honored for their courage and they will be remembered forever as heroes.

"We can count the names on that wall, but we can't count the number of buildings that these firefighters have saved. We can't count the number of people that still have their lives because of the great efforts of firefighters and fire departments all around this state," said Paterson.

"We commemorate today the lives and sacrifice ten more New York firefighters who served their communities, rushed toward danger when others were fleeing it. Who gave their lives, in the line of duty. They swore to perform,” said Senator Hillary Clinton.

One of the firefighters honored was from Mechanciville. Felix D'Avignon died while on the job in 1945.
