Penn Traffic to close P&C and Quality Market stores

NEW YORK

Thousands of people will be out of work as dozens of New York supermarkets close. Penn Traffic filed for bankruptcy last week. Now the company has filed plans to sell or close all of its P&C and Quality Market stores in the state. Our Kat De Maria has more. ONLINE EXTRA: Find a list of stores closing inside this story.

Weakfall sentenced to 13 years to life for murder

CITY OF SYRACUSE

Anthony Weakfall Jr., 16, was sentenced to 13 years to life in prison for the beating death of 20-month-old Imani Jennings. Weakfall pleaded guilty to murder in the second degree in October. Our Joleene Des Rosiers has more on the sentencing and what counselors say about the possibility of parole.

Paterson addresses budget crisis

The Governor says if lawmakers can't reach an agreement, he'll solve the state's budget crisis himself. Paterson says he'll present his plan to close the deficit to lawmakers and a bill that would temporarily grant him the authority to enact the plan without the approval of the legislature. As our Erin Billups reports, it's an unprecedented move, the constitutionality of which was almost immediately called into question.

Steve Burdick charged with child endangerment

A Palermo man who was very outspoken during the trial of Lynn and Lindsey Maxwell has found himself on the wrong side of the law. Steve Burdick was arrested Sunday, charged with endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated unlicensed operation and obstructing governmental administration.

Community breaks ground on North Side grocery

They've waited nearly 15 years and now their wait is just months from ending. Neighbors and city leaders broke ground on a grocery store in Binghamton's North Side Tuesday. As our Janelle Burrell tells us, advocates have long fought for a fresh food establishment in the area.

Fort Drum brigade welcomed home just in time for holidays

Madrid bridge to reopen ahead of schedule

It's been closed for a year and a half, but the Madrid bridge is soon expected to re-open. The 19th century bridge crosses the Grasse River and had been cracking and shifting over the years. While the work to complete is has taken several months, our Sarah Hagen tells us crews are actually finishing the project ahead of schedule.
