POTSDAM, N.Y. -- A new initiative to get the North Country and the Adirondacks wired-up is in the works.

More than 250 people from across New York State attended Clarkson University for the First Annual Forever Wired Conference on Tuesday. Conference leaders and attending professionals discussed revitalization and healthy economic growth through technology, specifically broadband technology. The goal is to add 2,019 telecommuters and entrepreneurs to the region by the year 2019.

"Most businesses now are going to be created by small entrepreneurs that grow to large businesses and that is what the conference is all about, connecting that through the internet which is a critical tool for developing the economy," said Clarkson University President Tony Collins.

The hope is to get the region wired so it can attract telecommuters and also expand economic opportunities for local businesses.
